Didn’t achieve a GCSE grade 4 in Maths or English? Don’t panic! 

We offer functional skills to those students that didn’t achieve a GCSE grade 4 in Maths or English. This qualification can be completed alongside City & Guilds’ courses (Hairdressing and Barbering)

The Functional Skills qualifications equips you with the practical skills needed to live, learn and work successfully. Functional Skills qualifications are available across five levels (Entry 1 to Level 2).

• Initial assessments will find out your individual strengths and learning needs. They help to make sure that any learning is at the right level, and tackles the right skill areas.
• Tutors will focus on helping you to develop the skills you will need in real life contexts and problem solving. So many of your workplace or home English and Maths needs will be used to help you understand and improve your skills.
• Final assessments will be on a computer. They will be about showing how you can apply your skills (and problem solve in realistic situations).
